Champagne

The birthplace of sparkling wine, where chalk soils and cool climate create the world's most celebrated bubbles.

About Champagne Wines

Champagne is produced exclusively in the Champagne region of northern France using the méthode traditionnelle — a secondary fermentation in the bottle that creates its signature effervescence. The three principal grapes are Chardonnay (providing elegance and citrus), Pinot Noir (contributing structure and red-fruit depth), and Pinot Meunier (adding roundness and approachability).

The region's chalk subsoil is fundamental to Champagne's character, providing excellent drainage and reflecting heat while retaining moisture. Key sub-regions include the Montagne de Reims (Pinot Noir), the Côte des Blancs (Chardonnay), the Vallée de la Marne (Pinot Meunier), and the Aube further south. Styles range from non-vintage blends and vintage-dated cuvées to blanc de blancs, blanc de noirs, and rosé.

Iconic houses include Krug, Dom Pérignon, Salon, Louis Roederer (Cristal), and Bollinger, alongside celebrated grower-producers like Jacques Selosse, Egly-Ouriet, and Pierre Péters. Champagne pairs brilliantly with oysters, sushi, fried foods, soft cheeses, and caviar.
